I first met Lionel in 1973 in Edmonton. I was 22 years old and he was my senior / mentor at Esso teaching me the ropes. Had a lot of fun back then. My most vivid memory with Lionel was associated with our love of golf. Now Lionel and I and others were not fair-weather golfers. Rain or shine, early morning as the sun rose or late evening as the sun went down, we were still looking for that birdie. I recall times when we golfed into December long after the course was closed for the season and the pins had been taken away and the cups filled in.. We golfed according to a different set of rules. These weren't CPGA rules. Created out of necessity, If you lost your orange ball in the snow, it didn't cost you 2 strokes, minimum 2 club lengths from a snow bank for an automatic drop onto dry land, automatic 2 putt once you hit the green, etc. And yes it was pretty cold some days. But we soldiered on to get " 18 " in. It was a fun time. R.I.P my friend.
