Elsie Arlene Pana

Elsie Arlene Pana of Calgary, beloved wife of Peter, passed away on Thursday November 16, 2017, at the age of 84 years. Elsie was born on December 25, 1932 on a farm in Saskatchewan close to Rosthern. She only spoke Ukranian until she started school. After graduating high school, she went to Prince Albert and became a clerk stenographer; then she took a job in Wood Mountain where she met Peter. They were married June 2, 1956. Together they started a family right away in Saskatoon, staying there until 1963. They moved to BC for a while but came to Calgary in 1964. Elsie liked gardening and cooking and together they loved camping and traveling. They spent many hours playing cards and trading jokes with friends and family. She was a gentle giving person who played a huge role in her children's lives and she was always a care giver. After the grandkids came, she was always known as Baba. She leaves many to cherish her memory; especially three sons, Lawrence of Calgary AB, Lonny (Noria) of Langdon AB, Lance (Veronica) of Sundre AB; one daughter, Lorelei (David) of Calgary AB; daughter-in-law, Carol of Calgary AB; three grandchildren, Ashli (Kyle) of Victoria BC, Jessica (Mike) of Calgary AB, and Logan of Sundre AB; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, a few being Gary, Darlene and Don Zadorozny, and Shirley, Gary and Wayne Melnyk. She is predeceased by one son Lyndon; sister Alice Zadorozny; brother Ted Melnyk; parents Stella and Joseph Melnyk. Elsie will be greatly missed and will always be known for her fine sense of humour and calming manner.
A memorial service will be held at Evan J Strong Funeral Services on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 2:00 PM.
