It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Vlado Petrus, our loved husband, father, grandfather and friend, at the age of 85 years. Dida Vlado, as he was known to his family and friends, was born in Nova Gradiska, Croatia where he grew up. He is survived by Teresa, his wife of 62 years; twin brother Joe; son Gerry and snaja Sandee with their daughters Olivia and Tessa. The family Petrus immigrated to Canada in 1969 and Dida Vlado is leaving relatives throughout Croatia, Germany and Canada behind. He worked as a finishing carpenter for a number of years as well as in the family real estate business. His passions were the great outdoors, hunting, fishing and golf in the last few years. But his real joy was witnessing his granddaughters school and musical performances and athletic achievements. Dida Vlado was a devout Catholic, a proud Croatian, was instrumental in building the Croatian/Canadian Cultural Centre thus providing a legacy for future generations of Croats and their friends. He was mildly political, a proud member of Hrvatska Seljacka Stranka, Mountainview Sports and Handicap Society, a tireless volunteer at both Suma and Bingo as well as a former President of the Croatian Hall. Dida Vlado touched and influenced many lives. He was loved and will truly be missed.
