William Griffith Hart passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, October 20, 2025, at the age of 86 years old in Calgary after a long illness. Bill was predeceased by his loving wife of 57 years Barbara Jean Hart (Benson). He is survived by his children, Michael Hart (Elizabeth Stockwell), Dawn Bury (Geoff), and Lori Hart; and his grandchildren, Jordan Bury, Cameron Bury, Michael Bury, Henry Hart, and Rachel Hart.
As a boy Bill played hockey and hooky in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, where he was a source of pride and concern to his parents Abbie and Vida. After moving in and out of several high schools and university programs, Bill had the great good fortune to meet Barb at the University of Saskatchewan, marry her in Saskatoon, and get an education degree. They lived in Edmonton for 50 years, where Bill became a great teacher, mentor, and administrator in the Edmonton Catholic Schools. His legacy was great programs for students with special needs. His efforts were sustained by his life-long Catholic faith.
Bill’s family expresses deep gratitude to the many people who cared for him throughout his illness, especially the physicians, nurses, and aides at the Prominence Way retirement community where Bill lived his last year.
There will be a private family funeral service.
