Many happy memories were made when Walter shared his time and stories with his grandchildren, family, and friends.
Walter’s family would like to thank the many friends, volunteers and care teams at Sierras of Evergreen, Shawnessy Commons, St. Patrick’s Parish, and Providence Care Centre for their support.
Walter was born on April 30, 1933, in Simpson, Saskatchewan. He is preceded in death by his four siblings, Bernard, Mae, Helen and Leonard, his mother Ethel and father Walter. Walter’s parents moved the family to Regina and after school he joined the Canadian Army where he met his first wife Patricia (Pat) whom he married in April 1957. Walter started his career as a teacher at Thom Collegiate and his love of learning and teaching continued throughout his life. He transitioned from teaching to a City Planner, travelling to small Saskatchewan towns serving the communities. While living and raising his family in Regina, he joined the Knights of Columbus, was an active member of the Roman Catholic Church serving as a lay minister and volunteering at Camp Monahan. Walter joined the Regina Sailing Club where he encouraged his family to learn to sail. Summers were spent camping at various campgrounds throughout Saskatchewan with close family friends and relatives. Walter’s expansive knowledge of woodworking and construction led him to aid family and friends on various renovation projects both large and small.
Walter moved to Calgary in 2010 and began volunteering at Father Lacombe, where he met Sandra. Walter joined St. Patrick’s Parish where he formed friendships with several members of the parish. After Walter married Sandra, he moved into Sierras of Evergreen establishing more friendships and spending several hours in their workshop. Walter’s journey continued when he moved from Sierras of Evergreen to Shawnessy Common before residing at Providence Care Centre.
Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at Providence Care Centre chapel (149 Providence Blvd SE) on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.
