Walentyna (Val) Stecewicz

Walentyna (Val) Stecewicz passed away peacefully with family by her side on October 6, 2024 at the age of 101 years young. She is survived by her three children, Donna (Rex) Fisher, Z.W. (Bill) Stecewicz, and Theresa Stecewicz as well as grandchildren Zenon Stecewicz, Derek (Tara) Fisher and Grant Fisher.

She was predeceased by her husband Waclaw and daughter-in-law Evanne Stecewicz.

Walentyna was born in Augustow, Poland, and spent her early life on a farm in Riga, Latvia where she learned to love farm life and nature. From an early age Val milked cows, fed chickens, plowed fields, picked berries, and cut wood to provide for the household, giving her a keen sense of dedication to family.

WWII forced her to flee to Germany where she was sponsored to emigrate to Canada. She arrived in Halifax, NS on October 9, 1947, and travelled by train to work at the Sanitorium in Calgary, AB.

Walentyna married Waclaw Stecewicz in 1949 and was married for 48 years. She was a homebody, a hard worker, and was very dedicated to her family. Val enjoyed her garden, her roses, and the apple trees in the backyard. Many hours were spent making pies, cookies, and cabbage rolls, which she generously shared with her family members.

Walentyna enjoyed nearby outings and travel to Hawaii but was truly happiest surrounded by her family.

She will be dearly missed and remain forever in our hearts.

Prayers will be held at Evan J. Strong Funeral Services South (5502-2 Street SW, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at 7:00PM. Funeral Mass will be held at St. James Catholic Church (5504-20 Street SW, Calgary, AB) on Friday, October 18, 2024 at 11:00AM with a recording available below. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
