Victoria (Vickie) Komusi Obituary

After 92 years of a well lived life, Vickie (née Proskow) Komusi passed away peacefully on September 1, 2026.

Vickie was born on July 15, 1934, in Drumheller, Alberta to Tillie and Anthony Proskow. She grew up alongside her brother Steve and sisters Mary and Alice. It was also there that she formed a lifelong friendship with Lydia, a friendship she treasured throughout her life.

Vickie graduated from Drumheller High School in 1952 before attending Business College in Calgary.

Following her marriage in 1954, Vickie welcomed four children into her life: Terry, Michael, Sandra, and Gary.

Vickie often shared fond memories of growing up in Drumheller and remained very connected to her siblings and their families throughout her life. Despite living in different places, the Proskow siblings stayed remarkably close. Vickie cherished the bond she shared with her sisters, Mary and Alice. Together, they and their expanded families spent many memorable summers at Christina Lake, watching their children enjoy lake life, creating lifelong memories, and developing a love of the water.

One of Vickie's career highlights was working at Thomas B. Riley Junior High School where she served as Head Secretary from 1967 until her retirement in 1993. She loved sharing stories from her years at the school and spoke often of the many friendships, the laughter, and cherished memories she made there.

Following the passing of her father, Anthony, Vickie's mother, Tillie, eventually remarried in 1979. Walter, along with his family, became a welcomed and much-loved extension of the family.

Vickie embraced life with enthusiasm, kindness, and a wonderful sense of humour. She built lasting friendships and enjoyed spending time traveling, going to the movies, lunches, the pub, the opera, and symphony. Vickie’s love of classical music was a great source of delight throughout her life and a great comfort to her in her final months.

Vickie enjoyed travel, with some of her favourite adventures including a trip to Hawaii with daughter Terry and son-in-law Clive, a trip to New Zealand with sister Alice and her husband Bob, an Alaskan cruise, a trip to the Maritimes, to Scotland, many summers in Sandpoint, as well as frequent trips to Vancouver and Point Roberts.

Above all else, Vickie loved her family. She delighted in watching her children build lives of their own and was overjoyed when her family grew to include her son in-law Clive, and her two daughters-in-law Elaine and Lori. She was a huge support to her daughter Sandra following the birth of Sandra’s two sons and was a devoted and loving grandmother to Steven, Nicholas, Alyssa, Kathryn, Darren, Kayden (née Kristin) and Thomas and she also warmly welcomed their partners into the family. She was equally proud and delighted by her great grandchildren Tamara, Layla, Lukah, Oliver, Kai, and Lennon.

Vickie shared a particularly close bond with her daughter Sandra but sadly in 2025, Sandra passed away, leaving a hole in Vickie’s heart that never quite recovered.

Vickie will be greatly missed. She lived life with kindness, compassion, generosity, and acceptance. She was selfless, considerate, and thoughtful to everyone around her and her spirit will live on with those she touched.
