Victor (Vic) Zubko Obituary

Vic was born on a farm near Stenen, Saskatchewan on April 20, 1924 to Fred and Fedora Zubko. He passed away on March 8, 2021 at the age of 96. He was the second youngest of twelve children.

Vic was educated in Stenen during the Great Depression and finished his Grade Twelve at City Park Collegiate in Saskatoon. He attended the University of Saskatchewan graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering after a short stint in the Navy. Vic spent the summers working on the home farm and during this time he met Lenore Long. They married on June 17, 1949 and their marriage lasted for 64 years until she passed away in 2013. The first few years of their marriage were spent in Eastend, Saskatchewan where Vic worked with the PFRA surveying small irrigation dams. In 1953, he joined Sun Oil company which became Suncor. They moved to New Norway, Pigeon Lake, Wetaskiwin, Virden and then finally Calgary.

Vic and Lenore were blessed with three children: Grant in 1951, Garth in 1954 and Karen in 1956. Vic enjoyed curling, golfing, skiing and vacationing with family in Idaho, the Okanagan, Vancouver Island and Windermere. He also enjoyed numerous Christmases with extended family. Vic was also active in St. Andrew's United Church where he and Lenore worked with the High C group which was an enjoyable and rewarding time. Vic had a passion for gardening and always had a beautiful yard often listening to opera and philharmonic music while he worked.

On Vic’s 90th birthday he moved into a cottage at Lake Bonavista Retirement Home. A short time later he met Patricia Cox and they were married June 19, 2015. Over the past six years he enjoyed socializing with Patricia and friends at the lodge. Vic leaves behind his wife Patricia Cox; his son Grant (Launa); his daughter Karen Green (Mark); his grandchildren Kyle Green (Tricia) and Mallory Green (Doug); as well as extended family members and friends. Vic was predeceased by his infant son Garth; his wife Lenore; eleven siblings; and his son-in-law Joe Cox.

There will be a private service to celebrate Vic’s life.
