Velaria Weber Obituary

We are sad to announce the peaceful passing of Velaria Helen Weber at the age of 89, on Monday, September 29, 2025 at 7:35 AM at the Dulcina Hospice in Calgary, AB.  Velaria (Val) was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and aunt.  She was born eighth of ten children to Joseph and Rosie Toth in Bashaw, AB on July 31, 1936.

Val attended grades 1 through 9 in Bashaw and Grade 10 in Red Deer at Saint Joseph’s Convent.  Following that she worked at the Bashaw coffee shop for a few years.  When some family friends on a wheat farm at Walla Walla needed hired help, she went to work there and met the love of her life, David Martin Weber.

David and Val were married on December 7, 1957 in Waitsburg, WA, and moved to Walla Walla, WA in 1958, where they started a family.  They lived and worked there until they moved to Calgary, AB in 1971 with their four sons, Wayne, Blain, Neal and Darren (Wally).  When Scott was born in 1977, the Weber family was complete.

David and Val operated a furnace cleaning business in Calgary.  After David passed in 2016, Neal took over the business with Val.  She remained active in keeping the books until well into her 80’s.

Val was also the extremely proud grandmother of Chelsea, Keeghan, Brooklyn, and Cyrus.

Val was preceded in death by her loving husband, David; her baby girl in 1963; her parents Joseph and Rosie Toth; brothers, Henry and Martin; and sisters, Mary, Elnora (in infancy), and Bernadette.  She is survived by her sons Wayne, Blain (Kari), Neal, Darren (Maureen), and Scott, her four grandchildren, brothers Wilfrid (Muriel) and Daniel (Claudia), and by sisters Veronica and Barbara, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Val will be fondly remembered by her sons and daughters-in-law Wayne, Blain (Kari), Neal, Darren (Maureen), Scott, grandchildren, and many family members and friends throughout Canada and the USA.

Since 2004, Val was an active member of the Catholic Women’s League (CWL). She and David dedicated many weekends to developing and enjoying their summer property at Johnson’s Beach Subdivision near Red Deer Lake, AB. Together, they hosted several pancake breakfasts, fireside gatherings, and social hours at their lot. Val consistently welcomed opportunities for conversation and valued connecting with others. She was often seen driving her cherished golf cart around the lake, eager to visit and engage with neighbours and family.

Val had a special talent for making every holiday memorable, whether by preparing Easter dinners, complete with handmade gift baskets and eggs, or creating Christmas gift bags filled with treats for her children and grandchildren. Her commitment to celebrating family occasions was unwavering.

Following David’s passing, Val continued to spend weekends at the lake and embarked on a long-anticipated trip to Budapest with her church group. While travelling without David was difficult, she demonstrated remarkable strength and resilience. Val will be remembered for her deep love and devotion to her family, her hospitality, her passion for gardening, and her enjoyment of visiting the “office” (the casino).

Rest in peace, Val, until we meet again.
