March 5, 1931 ~ August 27, 2023 (age 92) 92 Years Old

Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that our family announces the passing of Theresa Pearl (Terry), the matriarch of our family.

She was a wife, mother, grandmother, nurse, homemaker, hockey mom, chauffeur, gardener, golfer, curler, bridge player, party organizer and dancer extraordinaire.

Family meant everything to Terry, and she will be greatly missed by her husband of 69 years, Alban (Ab); her children, Debbie (Lee), daughter-in-law, Nancy, Kim, Brian (Sandy), Greg (Teresa) and Kari (Garth); 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Terry was predeceased by her son, Wayne and son-in-law, Rob.

Terry was raised in Emerald Junction, PEI, by her parents John Vincent and Beatrice Cash, alongside her brother Rev. John Cash and four sisters, Doris, Rosemary, Elaine, and Catherine.  She will be lovingly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, and relatives in PEI and across Canada.

Terry taught school before graduating as a registered nurse from Charlottetown General Hospital. Her nursing career included time spent in the OR at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and continued in various capacities in Winnipeg and Calgary.

Terry and Ab were married on August 10, 1954.  Their honeymoon was driving to Winnipeg, where Ab started his retail career with the Hudson’s Bay Company.  Four years and three kids later they transferred to Calgary settling in Haysboro, where they welcomed their next three children. Hobart Road was their home for the next 60 years and the center of our family life.  Mom had an extraordinary ability to bring people together for any occasion.  There was always a neighbour, family member or friend stopping by for a visit. The stories of life on Hobart are simply too many to list.

Faith and religion were an integral part of Terry’s life and St. Gerard’s Parish was her second home.  She was involved in many aspects of the church community contributing to the parish in many ways; doing readings, organizing golf tournaments, celebrations, participating in the walk for life and was a long-time member of the Catholic Women’s League.

Our family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff at Chinook Care Centre and Trinity Lodge for their love, kindness, and patience.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made in Terry’s name directly to the Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter, 1509 Centre Street South, Calgary, AB, T2G 2E6  https://www.calgarywomensshelter.com/ or a children’s charity of choice.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at a Prayer Service at St. Gerard’s Parish (8944 Elbow Dr. SW) on Monday, September 4, 2023, at 7:00 p.m.  A Celebration of Terry’s life will be held at St. Gerard’s Parish on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at 11:00 a.m.  For those who are unable to attend in person, there will be a video of the service below. Messages of remembrance may be shared with the family here.
