Stella Andronyk Obituary

On Friday, November 15, 2019, Stella Glutyk Andronyk passed away peacefully at the Chinook Care Centre in Calgary, Alberta at 97 years of age. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family, and she will be sadly missed by all.

Stella was born on May 12, 1922 in Zelena, Manitoba to Mike and Mary (nee Maloney) Glutyk. She was one of ten children in a large farming family. She married George Vermeylen and they owned and operated a small gas station and store in Boggy Creek, Manitoba. The store was lost in a fire and the family relocated first in Kelowna, British Columbia and then to Calgary, Alberta in the early 1960’s.

Stella moved to Toronto, Ontario in the late 60’s with two of her sons, Roy and Ron, and it was there that she met John Andronyk. They lived a good life together until his death in 1974. Stella returned to Calgary to be with her sons who all returned to the family home with the passing of their father.

Stella had five children. Stella leaves behind a daughter, Neva, in Uxbridge, Ontario and three sons, George, Gary, and Ron. Her one son, Roy, predeceased in 2016. She leaves behind one brother, David Glutyk, in London, Ontario. Also, predeceasing her is her grandson, Dwayne of Toronto, Ontario. Stella had a special relationship with her granddaughter, Leanne, in Brampton, Ontario. Over the years, Stella enjoyed time with Leanne and especially visits when she came to Calgary.

Stella was a tough but an endearing person. She raised a family and endured many hardships throughout her life. She found a good life with John Andronyk and they did many wonderful things together. Stella enjoyed the outdoors and she loved her children and grandchildren. She led a very interesting life which involved travel and meeting people. Her passions were being with family and their children, Ukrainian cooking, fishing, hiking, bowling and bingo. The family will greatly miss a wonderful mother who did so many good things in her life.

Stella will be interned in the Roblin District Cemetery in Manitoba in June of 2020.
