Sophie Brandt Obituary

We are sad to announce the death of our beloved mother, Sophie Brandt at the age of 94 at Rocky View Hospital in Calgary. Sophie was an inspiration to us all for her unwavering kindness, support, selflessness and devotion to family. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. Her warmth, strength and gentle spirit touched the lives of many. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.

Sophie was born in a small town outside of Prince Albert Saskatchewan. As a young lady she went to school and accepted a job as a bookkeeper/stenographer in Prince Albert where she met our father who was in town temporarily working as a lineman (before becoming a Geophysicist). She married Omer on April 27, 1957, and they built a life filled with love, laughter and family.

Sophie had a passion for gardening, books, bridge, golf and family gatherings. Sunday family dinners were a ritual and an institution in our family that were/are happily attended by all to enjoy robust conversations, storytelling, good food and laughter. Sophie was active in the Catholic church and known for her generous spirit, warm smile and wry sense of humour. She was always able to see the positive side in life and was very astute in sizing up people and situations that required deft handling.

Sophie is survived by her four children, Michael, Murray, Ken and Craig and her seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Omer, her brother Peter and sister Anne.

By Sophie's request, there will be no public funeral service or celebration of life other than a private memorial service for her immediate family.
