Shirley Pierce Obituary

With saddened hearts, our family announce the peaceful passing of Shirley Marlene Pierce (nee Coderre), on November 7, 2018, with her family by her side, at The Wentworth Manor in Calgary, Alberta.

Shirley was born on May 1, 1940 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Alfred & Esther Coderre.  The family resided in Vassar, Manitoba but later moved to Rainy River, Ontario, and eventually settled in Emo, Ontario. Shirley met Jack Pierce in Emo in 1956 and married they on June 14, 1958 in Atikokan, Ontario.  In their 60 years of marriage, they resided and raised four daughters in Atikokan.

Shirley will be remembered for her huge heart and generosity as she invited many a stranger, quickly a friend, into her home and treated them like family. Her working career began as a cashier at Chapels in Atikokan.  Once she was married, Shirley dedicated her life to raising her family.  She later was a dryer attendant at Pluswood, reported the local events through CBC TV Winnipeg Channel 5 News, and sold real estate for Century 21.

Shirley was a devoted wife to husband Jack, and stood by him with pride throughout his political career.  Shirley and Jack traveled to many foreign countries including Taiwan, Spain, Hawaii, Australia and South Africa. She gave endless volunteer hours and especially enjoyed her time with the Atikokan Lions Club, where she served as President and chair of several committees within the club.  She especially enjoyed participating in the Lion's shows. Shirley's was her happiest when everyone around her was having FUN!!

Shirley leaves behind her loving husband of 60 years, Franklin "Jack"; her daughters, Janice James (Mark), Brenda Pierce (Dave Fulton), Patty DeGagne (Dave), and Linda Heyes (Phil); her grandchildren, Robert, Matthew (Mariam), Brittany, Zachary, Shawn (Sara), Kevin (Katie), Emily, and Jason; great grandchild, Jackson Pierce; and her sisters, Doreen and Lois Coderre of Calgary, Alberta. Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Alfred & Esther Coderre; her brother, Ernie Coderre; and her sister, Audrey Hagen.

Shirley had a deep spiritual belief and is now in the hands of her God.

 "You are my sunshine"
