Sheila Mary Ross, of Calgary, Alberta, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 18, 1936, in Minton, Saskatchewan. A faithful servant of Jesus Christ, Sheila was deeply devoted to the Catholic community of Calgary throughout her life.
After graduating from the University of Saskatchewan, Sheila moved to Calgary, where she built a life and raised a family with her beloved husband, Neil.
A lifelong learner, Sheila went on to complete a Bachelor of Social Work as well as a Master’s degree in History. She was a tireless advocate for the welfare of others and a respected church and historical scholar.
Sheila had a remarkable gift for building strong, lasting relationships, some of which began in high school and endured throughout her life.
Sheila was predeceased by her devoted husband, Neil Ross. She was the cherished mother of six children: Mark (Michelle) Ross, Michael (Lois) Ross, Elisabeth (Derek) Thomas, Jennifer Lavens, Katherine (Don Short) Ross, and Paul Ross, and a proud grandmother to 14 grandchildren.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at Royal Park Care West for their gentle care and support during the final 18 months of Sheila’s life. Their compassion allowed her to continue enjoying her passions in comfort, including Master’s-level bridge and countless games of her beloved Rummikub.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. James Catholic Church (5504 20 Street SW, Calgary) on Friday, January 2, 2026, at 11:00 am, with a recording of the service available below.
