It is with profound sorrow and deep faith that we announce the peaceful passing of Seamus (Jim) Glendon, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, who was called home to the Lord on April 24, 2026, at the age of 88.
Born on August 11, 1937, in Ireland, Seamus carried with him throughout his life the warmth, wit, and enduring faith of his homeland. He made his life in Calgary, Alberta, where he built a family rooted in love, laughter, and the grace of God.
Seamus was the devoted and cherished husband of Jane Glendon, his faithful companion and the love of his life. Together they built a home filled with faith, joy, and an open door for all who needed it. He was the proud and loving father of Ciara Glendon (partner Dan) and Keelin Collett (husband Ron), and the doting grandfather of his beloved grandsons, Declan Daykin and Lochlan Newark, who brought him immeasurable delight and pride. He is also survived by his dear sister, Sr. Eileen Glendon, whose own life of consecrated service was a source of great pride and inspiration to him. He was deeply connected to and loved his extended family both in Canada and Ireland. He was also blessed with many wonderful friendships over the years with amazing individuals.
A devoted son of the Catholic faith, Seamus was a cherished member of St. Bonaventure Parish, where his faith was not merely practiced but lived — in his kindness, his humility, and his unwavering trust in God’s providence. He faced life’s seasons with a quiet courage grounded in his belief that all things rest in God’s hands.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Providence Care Centre, whose tenderness, professionalism, and kindness in his final days brought great comfort to Seamus and to all who love him.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
— 2 Timothy 4:7
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Bonaventure Church (1600 Acadia Dr SE, Calgary) on Saturday May 9, 2026 at 11:00 am.
May his gentle soul rest in the peace and light of Christ. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
May his soul be at God’s right hand.
