It is with a heavy heart that we announce the loss of our beloved Sarah (Sallie) Ann Ward Greenway (Duffin) who passed away on Friday, August 27, 2021, at the age of 59, after a long battle with several health issues. Sallie was born in Drumheller, Alberta on November 9, 1961, and was the youngest of a family of ten children. A few years after she was born, the family moved from Drumheller to Cochrane and eventually Bowness where she spent most of her years living as a proud Bownesian, she truly loved this community.
Sallie was devoted to her family and a treasured friend to many. And as most people know, when you became her friend, you were a friend for life. She was happiest when she was surrounded by family and friends and truly loved gatherings. You could hear Sallie's laughter across the room as she visited and reminisced with others. And of course, when she called, you had to be prepared to spend at least an hour or more on the phone with her. There was never a shortage of stories when you had a conversation with Sallie.
Sallie enjoyed several jobs in her lifetime but the one she loved the most was when she worked for Cardinal as a bus attendant, ensuring that children with disabilities in her care were safe and secure while traveling to and from school.
She always found a way to smile or laugh in the toughest of times and consistently used to say 'stay positive, it will work out and we will get through this together.' Sallie was a true fighter, showed extreme resilience, and will be sadly missed by many.
In her spare time, she loved watching movies, reading, and she had a soft spot in her heart for animals of all kinds, especially her cats. After moving into the Fanning Centre, Sallie discovered gardening and was always delighted with what she was able to grow in the terrace garden. She also enjoyed crafts and after visiting, you would leave with a special card or gift that she made for you. Sallie will forever be remembered for her giving and kind soul.
Besides her loving husband Terry, Sallie is survived by her three children Jennifer, Stacey, and Terence James (TJ) and her two grandchildren Joshua and Sydney, who brought great pride and immense joy to her life. She is also survived by her eight siblings, Tom (Marilyn), Frank (Carrolle-Lynne), Jim (Larissa), Pat (Kenora), Mike, Sandra (Murray), Bob (Karen) and Bill Duffin plus many cousins, nephews, and nieces. She is predeceased by her parents Tom and Frances Duffin and her oldest sister Baby Frances.
Sallie will be laid to rest with her mom and dad at a private family gathering on Friday, September 17, 2021, at Mountain View Memorial Gardens, 1515 100th Street SE, Calgary AB.
Services will be held at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 7624-39 Avenue NW, Calgary at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 18, 2021. Please join the family for a reception after the service at 7544-39 Avenue NW. Please bring a lawn chair for this outdoor reception if so desired.
