Sandra Stephens Obituary

We are heartbroken to announce the sudden passing of Sandra Joanne Stephens, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend. Sandra passed away unexpectedly on May 4, 2025, at the age of 83, following a sudden stroke while visiting family in Calgary.

Born and raised in Victoria, BC, Sandra was a gifted student and a talented track and field athlete. Her intelligence, warmth, and strong sense of purpose led her to pursue a career in nursing. After moving to Calgary, she worked as a neuro-rehabilitation nurse, dedicating her professional life to helping others.

Sandra married her high school sweetheart, Glen Stephens, and together they raised five children in a lively, loving home filled with laughter, generosity, and care. She was the heart of her large and ever-growing family—the steady, joyful presence that brought everyone together and made each person feel seen, loved, and included.

In retirement, Sandra returned to her roots, settling in Craig Bay on Vancouver Island. There, she became an active and engaged member of the local community, forming deep friendships and contributing meaningfully to neighborhood life. Whether through social gatherings, bridge games, or nature walks, Sandra thrived in connection with others and brought warmth to every corner of her world.

A woman of many passions, she found joy in her garden, solace in her books, and purpose in giving back. She was a supporter of arts and education, a sharp and spirited bridge player, and someone who never stopped learning, caring, or contributing.

Sandra’s life was marked by deep compassion, quiet strength, and unwavering love for her family. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the bonds she nurtured, and the example she set for living with grace, curiosity, and heart.

She is predeceased by her brother, Bruce, and her mother, Trudy. She is survived by her loving husband, Glen; her five children—Chris, Sterling, Tia, Kari, and Austin—and their partners, her ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A private celebration of Sandra’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to a local charity in honour of Sandra’s lifelong commitment to compassion and care.
