Salustiano (Salus) Tome Fernandes of Calgary, Alberta passed away suddenly and peacefully on June 25, 2020 at the Foothills Hospital.
Salus is lovingly remembered by his wife Jeany (Jane); his daughters, Sandra (Doug) and Sheryl (Chris); two granddaughters, Coco and Mila; his sister and brother, Efifie and Tony (Claire); as well as other family members.
Born June 8, 1932 in Dar es Salaam Tanzania, Salus worked in Dar es Salaam as a heavy-duty mechanic for the Dar es Salaam Railways, and DMT and continued his career in Canada. He married Jeany (Jane) Dias on January 13, 1963. Salus, Jeany, and Sandra moved to Canada on June 24, 1968, and built a life in Calgary. Salus had a passion for music. He played the saxophone for various bands for many years, mostly Italian-theme events. Over the last several years Salus volunteered his time at the Kerby Center in Calgary, where he was a long-serving member of the Band.
We would like to thank Salus’ Nephrologist and the South Calgary Health Centre Dialysis Team for taking care of him for many years. We would also like to thank the team on Unit 54 at the Foothills hospital for their care in his last days.
