Sally Gardzilewich

Sally passed away peacefully on March 16, 2025 at The Academy of Aging, Fish Creek in Calgary, AB at the age of 98 years.

She is survived by children, Audrey (Reg) Pirie; Christine Harle; granddaughter, Samantha Harle, sister-in-law, Stella Chetek and family. Sally was predeceased by her husband Walter, son Denis, sister Vera Zuck and Vera’s children Peter Zuck and Catherine Zuck.

Sally was born in Monastyrys’ka, Ukraine in 1926 and at the age of 2 emigrated to Canada with her parents, settling in Edmonton. She met Walter there and they were married in 1949.  Sally was an active partner with Walter in their retail business in Radium Hot Springs. In later years the family retired to Calgary where Sally enjoyed her involvement in the UCWL and Plus 50 club at St. Stephen Protomartyr Church as well as travels to Mexico, Hawaii, Europe and Ukraine. Her biggest joy was being able to watch granddaughter Samantha grow up. Sally loved to sew and cook and well into her 90’s was still searching the internet for new recipes to try. Her death will sadden friends and family alike, but memories of her long and happy life will sustain those who are left to mourn her passing and to rejoice in her life.

Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Stephen Protomartyr Ukrainian Catholic Church (4903 - 45 Street S.W.) on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at 11:00 am with the Rev. Janko Herbut presiding, followed by a Graveside Service at Edenbrook Memorial Gardens. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
