Ruth Louise Eisenhauer

Ruth Louise Eisenhauer, educator, beloved wife of Harry and loving mother to her three stepchildren, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2025. She became a widow last October when Harry died at 104 years of age. They shared 62 years together as a loving couple, and more recently, a celebration was held in April for Ruth’s 100th birthday. She was so very grateful and appreciative of all the family and friends who honoured her special day.

Ruth was born April 11th, 1925, in Halifax, N.S. She was the daughter of Hilda and John Paterson of Dartmouth NS, and the eldest of four sisters: Isabel, Joan (Flewwelling), Vera (Adlington), all predeceased. While separated by thousands of kilometers, the family always kept very close through weekly letters and phone calls. After graduating from Dalhousie University in Halifax, she became a dedicated, enthusiastic teacher whose sense of adventure took her to schools in BC, Ontario and N.S. Those who knew Ruth would often comment how she was always so welcoming, thoughtful, and intelligent.

Through mutual friends and travel, she met Harry whose wife Lorna had died. Harry and Ruth were married in 1963, and Ruth moved to Calgary and became stepmother to John (Bozena), David (Brenda) and Janice (Richard). Ruth married into a tumultuous young teenage family where she calmly drew upon her skills and patience as a high-school teacher to provide the warm, loving environment that carried the family forward for over six decades. Ruth later became a proud grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. 

The church was the centre of Harry and Ruth’s lives. Ruth participated in many groups including the C.G.I.T., church choir, Women’s Missionary Society, as a church elder on session, and in Heritage Seniors. To ensure she had time with Harry, she became a skilled bridge player and an avid golfer (successfully hitting that elusive hole-in-one before Harry!)  She was a member of the Calgary University Women’s Club and enjoyed reading, music, traveling and visiting family and friends.

The memorial service for friends and family will be held on Friday, August 15th from 1:30 to 3:00 pm at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 703 Heritage Drive SW., Calgary, AB. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church: https://www.standrewscalgary.ca/give
