Ruth Belsher Obituary

It is with great sadness and deep and everlasting love, that we announce the passing of our mother, Ruth Anna Belsher (nee Mueller). She passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary at the age of 91.

Born in Warner, Alberta to Michael and Rosa Mueller, Ruth was the youngest of 10 children; Oscar, Grace, Lloyd, Kenneth, Ray, Rome, Irene, Joyce, and George. Her devoted husband Lawrence (Laurie) predeceased her. Ruth is survived by her sister Irene, loving children Calvin Belsher, Karen Stewart, and Arlene (Andy) Mankowski; ten grandchildren Derek Belsher, Jeff Mankowski, James Stewart, Jillian (Ryan) Curry, Bridget Belsher, Megan (Graham) Wacko, Ross Stewart (Mary Macdonald), Zachary Mankowski, Craig Stewart, and Spencer Stewart; two great-grandchildren Peyton and Harper Curry, and numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Ruth attended school in Wrentham, traveling by horse and buggy in the warmer months, and by horse and sleigh in the winter. When she was 16, she accompanied her mother to Switzerland, crossing the ocean on the Queen Mary.

Ruth was always good with numbers and took bookkeeping courses at night while working at Eaton’s and supported her soon-to-be husband’s Belsher Limited trucking company. She married Lawrence Belsher on May 25, 1957, and was happily married for 56 years until his death on April 26, 2014.

Ruth and Laurie moved to Calgary where Laurie became an insurance agent with Occidental Life and later, in 1972, moved the family to Cranbrook where he opened his own agency. She was a solid supporter and adapted easily to the move. In 2005, Ruth and Laurie moved to Lethbridge to be closer to their family, and eventually, she moved back to Calgary in 2017 to be closer to her children.

Ruth was an avid golfer and curler, loved camping, playing cards and games, and spending quality time with her family. She will be remembered for her resiliency, keen sense of organization, and devotion to those she loved.

Ruth regularly attended church throughout her life and would often participate in bible study. She lived her life based on her faith in Jesus which gave her comfort.

Due to the newly announced Covid-19 restrictions and currently no “Recommended Emergency Protocols”  being implemented at the church, a private funeral without a reception will now be held on September 20th at 11:00am at the First Calgary Church of the Nazarene. Our sincerest apologies to those who had hoped to attend in support of our mom and her family. The funeral will be live-streamed at the link below.

A private family interment will be held on Tuesday, September 21 at the Warner Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ruth can be made to the Stars Foundation at https://stars.ca.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
