Rowena Florentino Ormita, a long term resident of Calgary, Alberta passed away after a long battle with cancer on July 5, 2026 at the age of 61.
She is survived by her dearest husband, Ernesto Ormita, and her beautiful children; Christian Ray Ormita, Christopher John Ormita, and Emie Joyce Ormita. She is preceded in death by her father, Nestorio Florentino.
She was born on April 21, 1965 to Nestorio Florentino and Milagros Lacar in Hinundayan, Philippines. She came to Canada in 1991 and on May 20, 1995 she married her husband, Ernesto Ormita. They got married at the Devonian Gardens and their marriage was later blessed at Sacred Heart Church. On November 19, 1995, June 20, 1998, and July 5, 2001, she welcomed her 3 beautiful children. They were the most important part of her life.
She was a very kind-hearted woman and shared her soul with others and really enjoyed working in various hotels and at the airport. She left a deep and lasting impact on every single person she met. Her warm smile and her boisterous laugh brightened every room she was in. Everywhere that she went, she was able to make friends and make people feel welcomed.
Rowena was a devoted mother and friend. She enjoyed laughing the loudest in the room and making jokes about anything and everything. She loved listening to disco music and the oldies but goodies from the 60s & 70s when she was cooking, cleaning, and hanging around the house. One of her favorite activities was tending to her garden and making sure it was filled with colorful flowers every spring. She also loved dancing and would always partake in little dance breaks with her children whenever there was a song that caught their ear.
She was the biggest lover of elephants, ensuring that every corner of her house was filled with them and even shared her collection with those around her. She was very passionate about her Catholic faith and made sure that her children grew up with those values in mind and brought them to church every Sunday. She will be deeply missed by her friends, her neighbours, her family, and all those who she made an impression on.
A Funeral Liturgy will be held at Evan J. Strong Funeral Services North (3625 12 St NE) on Sunday, July 12, 2026 at 2:00 pm
