Rosemarie Chovin Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Rosemarie Chovin on Monday, August 12, 2024, at Rockyview General Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer that she kept private until the end. Rosemarie, known to many as Rose, was born on August 19, 1939, in Cochabamba, Bolivia, to Wilhelm Doering and Elva Villaroel. She departed this world just a week shy of her 85th birthday, leaving behind a legacy of love, creativity, and resilience.

Rosemarie moved to Canada shortly after her marriage to John Chovin on July 7, 1959, marking the beginning of a new chapter. Despite facing numerous challenges, Rose’s unwavering dream of becoming a mother came true after 15 years of hope and perseverance. On Thanksgiving Sunday, she joyfully welcomed her beloved daughter, Yasmine, into the world. Her love for Yasmine was boundless, and she devoted herself to being a nurturing and supportive mother, cherishing every moment they shared.

Rosemarie was a woman of remarkable creativity and spirit. Her artistic talents were evident in the beautiful clothing, jewelry, and costumes she designed, despite having no formal training. Her hands were never idle; she sewed intricate costumes and crafted elaborate wedding cakes with the same enthusiasm and dedication she brought to all aspects of her life. Her passion for cooking and baking led her to invent unique recipes and create stunning cake decorations that delighted friends and family alike.

Rosemarie had an incredible ability to make friends wherever she went, lighting up every room with her vibrant personality. She was an avid reader of cards and had a deep passion for astrology, which she shared with anyone willing to listen. Her love for entertaining was unmatched—she took great joy in designing elaborate dinner settings and bringing people together.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Yasmine (Keith) Taylor; her cherished grandchildren, Andon and Sadie; her dear brother Daniel (Ana Maria) Doering; and a host of nieces and nephews. Rosemarie was predeceased by her husband, John Chovin, parents, Wilhelm and Elva; her brother Jorge Doering; and her sister Daisy Canedo.

As her grandson Andon so aptly said, “There is no one in the world like Nana.” Rosemarie’s presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit and the joy she brought to those around her will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
