Roman Swidnicki Obituary

It is with heavy hearts we announce that our beloved husband, father, Dido and Diduscz, and brother, peacefully passed in his home and into the loving arms of the Lord ,with his family by his side at the age of 95 years.

Roman was born on August 16th, 1925 in Wasyliw Welyky (Lviv) Ukraine to Eva and Stefan. He was one of the 4 children in the family and the eldest son. Roman met Stephanie Witek, the love of his life, in Poland after moving there in 1947. They were married for 62 years and were blessed first with twin girls, Helen and Donna and soon after with Maria and Bohdan.  Roman worked as a painter and helped on the family farm as well as worked as a coal minor. In his younger years he proudly served in the Ukrainian Army.

Roman’s new life started in Canada in 1978 when he moved from Poland to Calgary with Stephanie, Helen, Donna and Bohdan. He was always a very hard-working man, and bridge construction was one of his first jobs out west. Roman helped build a portion of the home that he lived in for his entire life. He loved working on his and his family’s gardens. Roman was a man of great faith and a devout Catholic, having been a long-time member of the Assumption Blessed Virgin Mary Church, as well as volunteer. He instilled his devotion of the catholic faith, as well as Ukrainian heritage, to his children and grandchildren, and always maintained that faith in God must come first. Of many things, Roman was always very proud of his family and he had the opportunity to show his son Bohdan and granddaughter Sonja his homeland on a trip back to Ukraine in his later years.

Roman will be forever remembered by his loving wife Stephanie; daughters Helen and Donna (Borys); grandchildren Sonja and Michael; great grandchild Luca; his sister Zosia; brothers Zennon and Joe; along with a lovely endless extended family in Canada (cousin Vera and family), USA (Michael (Marina) Swydnycky), Poland and Ukraine. He was predeceased by his parents Eva and Stefan; his daughter Maria; and son his Bohdan. Roman was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be forever missed.
