With loved filled hearts we say goodbye to a loving Husband, Dad, Papa and Great Grandpa, Roland Emile Banville. Roland passed away peacefully on October 1, 2019, two and a half months before his 90th birthday.
He will be deeply missed by Jeannette, his wife of 67 years, and his children Raymond (Leslie), Ginette, Robert, Joanne (Gordon Grudgfield), Lynne (Randy Hoffman), Norman and Michelle (John Bergen); as well as his 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Roland will be fondly remembered by his sisters Helene Duval and Marie Ange Rochon; his brothers Jean and Fr. Edouard Banville; his sister in-law Berthe Banville, brothers-in-law Aurele, Gilbert, Leo, Denis and Robert Berard, and all their families.
Roland was born in Manitoba and came to Calgary in 1972. As a General Superintendent, he was most proud of the work he did on some of our city’s iconic buildings: City Hall, the Glenbow Museum, the Olympic Oval, and the Stampede Grandstand, to name a few. In retirement he and Jeannette loved travelling and spent many years as snowbirds in Yuma, Arizona. Roland also had a passion for gardening and crafting beautiful wooden boxes, vases, furniture, and toys. Roland’s easygoing nature was rewarded with the compassion of strangers throughout his life, but none so more as the staff at Chinook Care Centre Hospice. For their care and support in his final days, the family is truly grateful.
“Fathers hold their children’s hands for a while, but their hearts forever.”
