It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert John Smid, "Big Bob" of Cremona, Alberta. Bob passed away at the Foothills Hospital on May 16, 2021 at the age of 69 years.
Bob was the oldest child of John and Dorothy Smid. He was born in High River, Alberta and raised in the Parkdale community of Calgary with siblings Ivy, Kent and Sue. Bob moved out to Cochrane to raise a family of his own, while working with the City of Calgary until his retirement in late 2006. He moved to Cremona that same year, where he continued his enjoyment of managing the Lions Youth Camp. Bob was a respected member of the Cochrane Lions Club for 34 years.
Left to mourn are Bob’s four children Tyrel (Sarah), Jocelyn (Tom), Caitlin (David), and Katrina (Matt); grandchildren Everli, Dexton, JJ and Colson; siblings Ivy (Howard), Kent, and Sue (Kevin); as well as extended family and many friends from years gone by.
There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date, when restrictions ease.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cochrane Lions Club on behalf of Bob (info@cochranelionsclub.com or by contacting one of Bob's children.
