Robert (Bob) Francis Fisher

Our family is saddened to announce the sudden passing at home of Robert (Bob) Fisher of Calgary, Alberta on Thursday January 9, 2025, at the age of 84 years.

He is deeply missed by his children, Brent (Tina) and Lori. Also grieving are his beloved grandchildren Christie (Tyler), Philip, Derrick (Chanel), Danica, Jolie, Maddison (Colin), Carley, Amanda, Justin and Brandan. He is also survived by nine beautiful great-grandchildren, his brother Ron Fisher (Ingrid), sister Linda Normandeau, brother and sister-in-law Elliott and Phyllis Pighin, daughter-in-law Rosanna Fisher and many long-time friends and extended family.

Bob is pre-deceased by his wife of 63 years, Lorena (Renee), twin sons Robert and David who both passed tragically at a young age due to ALS, his parents Louis and Theresa Fisher, brother John (Jackie), son-in-law Jack Belden, brother-in-law Rene Normandeau and sister-in-law Glenys Houle.

Bob was born in Humboldt, SK but grew up in Cranbrook, BC. After several work transfers, he and Renee eventually settled in Calgary where he could be closer to family. When the children were young, he and Renee spent summers camping and fishing most often at Whiteswan Lake, which was their favourite haunt. Not only was Bob an accomplished fisherman he was known for his camp breakfasts and made the “world’s best hash browns”. Bob was employed in the grocery business for 45 years and to this day nobody knew their prices better than he. He was also a very active member of ACT (Associated Canadian Travellers) whose charitable activities occupied many weekends during their years in Cranbrook. Once retired, the couple were able to do more camping, travelling and wintering many seasons in Arizona and Mazatlan, MX which is bordering on a family tradition. It was here that they made many new and lasting friendships.

Bob was a handyman, a very able short order cook, a competent helpmate around the house and a wonderful match for Renee who kept a beautiful home. In the 6 months since Renee passed, Bob surprisingly became a kitchen diva. He filled his hours baking up a storm, trying new recipes (not always in Renee’s library) and keeping in close touch with friends and family. Bob was comforted in his short widower period by their young dog Reno who was a blessing. He was also extremely fortunate to have caring neighbours, and a wonderful dog-walker (Acara) whom he thought highly of to help him manage Reno’s need for activity that he was no longer able to deliver. 

Some people may have thought he wore his suspenders a bit too tight, but those close to him knew that he was a caring and honest man who truly loved his family.

There will be no funeral per Bob’s wishes, but a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations in Bob’s name be made to The ALS Society of Alberta at www.alsab.ca.
