Robert "Bob" Cooper Obituary

Robert ( Bob ) Cooper of Priddis Greens, Alberta passed away at the Agape Hospice in Calgary on Feb 4,2020, 7 months after his cancer diagnosis.

Bob was born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan to Wilfred and Ella Cooper. In his youth, he was a billiards player, a skater, an oarsman and ultimately a graduate in Commerce from the University of Saskatchewan.

He moved with his new bride Mary Alice to Calgary in 1958, following his job as an economist with Imperial Oil. His 30-year career took them to Regina, Toronto and back to Calgary, and they settled in retirement inPriddis Greens.

Dad remained active well into his eighties, travelling, hiking and cross country skiing. He was a dedicated volunteer at his church. He was an Elder, he taught ESL, and worked with “Inn From The Cold”, as well as the Food Bank.

Bob had a lifelong commitment to and a love of music. He had a gift for understanding harmonies which he used both when he played his beloved piano, and when he sang in Barbershop choruses across Canada. Beginning in 1969, Dad sang in choruses as a baritone, which culminated in his membership with the Western Hospitality Singers. He was very proud of their achievements and relished their camaraderie.

Bob was predeceased by his soulmate and wife, Mary Alice, who passed away last March. He is survived by his brother Barry; his four children; Jill, Graham (Sandra), Catharine (Kevin) and Ian (Emma); grandchildren Genevieve, Rob, Annelies, Craig, Rebecca, Jesse, Claire, Hannah, Maeve and Josie, and great granddaughter Margaret.

Dad was wise and thoughtful, a humble patriarch who was a guide and inspiration to his children and grandchildren. We will all miss him dearly.

During his last days, Dad had extremely compassionate, respectful care at the Salvation Army Agape Hospice in Calgary. If you so desire, please make a donation in his name to this deserving facility.
