In loving memory of Rita Dixon-Poor Eagle, beloved daughter of (late) Judea Dixon & (late) Wanda Crawler. Rita was born in Bar U Ranch, AB, on February 18, 1958. She passed away peacefully in Black Diamond, AB, on September 12, 2023.
Rita was raised in Eden Valley, AB. She moved to Siksika Nation in 1995. She attended Eden Valley, Longview & Black Diamond Schools, where she participated in baseball and basketball, then she would come home to horseback riding with her cousins.
She met Wally Poor Eagle and moved to Siksika, then married in 1998. She had 4 children, 12 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild and adopted daughter Olivia Holloway.
Rita loved travelling, mint picking, and berry picking with her daughters. She also loved beadwork, berry picking, and making dry meat with her sister, (late) Annie. She was raised in a traditional and rodeo lifestyle. Rita was very active in community programs and worked for Siksika Nation for 18 years.
Rita leaves behind her loving children, Cody (Gaylene), Blaine, Chelsey (Kai), and Colleen (Tyronne); her sister, Barbara Daniels; traditional sisters, Cecilia Left Hand, and Cora Sitting Eagle; special friend, Jackie Spring Chief; her special nieces, Delphine Bearspaw, Rebecca Poucette, Laverne Dixon, Linda Daniels, and Renolda Baptise. She came from a big family of 12 siblings she missed dearly.
Wake service will be held at the Dixon family home, on Monday, September 18 at 3:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at Gordon Yellowfly Memorial Arbour on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Graveside service to follow at Little Washington Cemetery, Siksika Nation, AB.
