It is with great sadness that the family of Richard Wayne Lewis of Calgary announce his passing on Friday, September 9, 2022, at the Foothills Country Hospice.
Rick was born to Fay and Al Lewis in Toronto and raised in Calgary. He grew up in the foothills of the Rockies, which fostered his dare devil antics as a child, and adventurous spirit in adulthood.
Rick graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Masters in Architecture in 1987, at which time he began his career with Gibbs Gage Architects (GGA). He rose to a partnership position due to his unwavering commitment to project success and dedicated his 35-year career to improving cities for the people who live in them.
The role he was most proud of was that of a Dad, Step-Dad, Husband, and friend. He took great pride in sharing his love of life with those around him.
Rick deeply cherished Fernie, British Columbia, where he expressed his love of community, mountain biking, skiing, and sledding. He was a true weekend warrior, and Fernie was his place of peace.
His passion for adventure and travel was infectious, ensuring those he loved experienced the joy and awe of the outdoors.
He will be forever remembered and missed by his wife Sandra; children Zoé (Pétur), and Reese; stepchildren Carter and Ben; parents Al and Fay; siblings Dianne, her children Ethan and Hanna, Carol (Pete), their children Sean and Jenn, Ken (Barb), and their children Alyssa and Warren.
A Celebration of life will be held at the Glencoe Club (636-29 Ave. SW, Calgary) on Thursday, September 15, 2022, from 11:00am - 2:00pm.
