Ramon Plantilla Obituary

Ramon P. Plantilla was born on September 9, 1952, in Quezon City, Manila, Philippines. He passed away on July 13, 2026, at Foothills Medical Center, at 7:30pm.

He was predeceased by his father, Ernesto Plantilla, Sr. and his mother, Lourdes Pamintuan Plantilla. He is survived by his family, his wife Virginia R. Abuan, and two kids Robert C. Plantilla, and Patricia A. Abuan, as well as his siblings, Ernesto, Jr., Marilou, Connie, Fatima, and Martin.

Ramon was a devout Catholic, and a kind and simple man. He went to the University of Santo Tomas to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering, where he graduated and passed his board exam, becoming a Professional Engineer. While at the university, he joined the fraternity, spending his free time playing basketball with his close friends, peers, and neighbors.

He worked in a power plant company, National Power Corporation (NAPOCOR), as a design engineer supervisor, giving him the opportunity to travel to Japan for further training for his job.

During this time, he travelled to many different places around the world, eventually bringing him to Canada. Here, he increased his training in Mechanical Engineering, attending SAIT’s Petroleum Technology program.
This led to a career at the City of Calgary working in wastewater treatment. He worked in their three plants: Fish Creek, Pine Creek and Bonnybrook. Other odd jobs he had over the years included being a custodian at the Calgary Catholic School District, a sales associate at different convenience stores such as 7-Eleven and Mac’s, and as a Service Clerk at Calgary Co-Op.

After retiring, he volunteered at St. Anthony Catholic Church as an adorer and at Kerby Centre, helping seniors with any activities they needed assistance with. He was also a member of the Totus Tuus Rosary Makers Group at Holy Spirit Catholic Church along with many other members of his family and relatives.

Ramon was a good father to his children, especially when they were younger. He delighted in taking them on road trips, particularly on long weekends. One of his greatest joys in life was bringing his family to places such as Banff, Lake Louise, and the family favourite, Radium. Other trips that Ramon remembered fondly were those that took the family on visits to their family and friends all over Canada and the United States. Being able to share with them the wonderful views of the Rocky Mountains during the summer gave him immense gratification and happiness.

We hold countless memories that will be told for years and never forgotten. They are treasures that will stay with us forever.

In Love and Peace, Ramon.
