Réal Yves Alarie

It is with great sadness that the family of Réal Yves Alarie announces his passing after an extended illness, on Saturday, May 16, 2020, at the age of 69 years.

Born and raised in Manitoba, Réal spent some time traveling, working his way all around the world before settling in Calgary with his partner Susan. A maker at heart, Réal loved working with his hands. He spent many hours with his only child Chris making playhouses and toys, and later volunteering to build sets with Chris' many youth theater groups.

Réal was a colourful character, known for his creative and sometimes wacky problem solving skills (As a child, he ate popcorn with a spoon to keep his hands clean). He also had a font of infinite patience, which served him well both in his personal life and his work.

Réal worked with Apacon Interior Construction Inc for over 20 years and contributed to the success of the company. His professional approach to his work coupled with his knowledge of the industry endeared him to all who work with him. He joined the company as a tradesman. However, his technical skills and demeanour were recognized and he quickly rose to the position of general superintendent.

Réal was well liked and respected by clients, designers, sub trades and fellow employees. His desire to make the best of any situation was what set him apart. His friendly smile, listening ear and warm personality shall be missed.

He truly was one of a kind.

Réal is survived by his partner Susan Greenfield, child Chris (Stephen) Rose, and siblings René (Barbara), Roger (Vivian), Lucille (Brock) Ferguson, and Claude. Réal will also be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews, extended family, and dear friends. Réal was predeceased by his father Léo, mother Thérèse, and brother Marc.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff of CBI, the palliative care staff of AHC, Dr. Dowden and his staff at Tom Baker Cancer Centre, and the Agapé Hospice staff who cared for Réal so well in his final days.

Memorial donations in memory of Réal can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
