Patricia Mary (Whitby) Pearce

Patricia Mary Pearce (nee: Whitby) passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at the age of 83 years old.

She was born in Liverpool, England on July 20th, 1935. Her father's name was George and her mother's name was Mary. Patricia had 2 younger sisters, Carol and Kathy; and a younger brother, Jimmy. She was sent to live on the Lincolnshire farm with a relative during WWII.

Patricia trained as a nurse and worked her way up to ward sister in the Liverpool hospitals. She married Brian Mackay on September 24th, 1960 and had two boys; Jamie born in 1963 and Neil born in 1965. In 1974, the family emigrated to Calgary. Patricia attended SAIT and became a Dental Assistant.

Patricia divorced and re-married to Ian Pearce on June 22nd, 1979. With Ian, Patricia became an outdoor enthusiast. She cross-country skied in the winters and hiked or canoed in the summers. They traveled in the back country in Alberta, BC, Yukon and Alaska. They purchased a plot of land in Edgewater, BC and built a house. When it was completed, Patricia retired and moved full-time to Edgewater. Besides her outdoor activities, she spent hours tending to her flower garden. When it became too much to look after, she and Ian moved to Radium Hot Springs. They spent a couple of winters in Casa Grande, Arizona.

When Ian became ill, they traveled extensively through BC with their miniature schnauzer, Katie. After Ian's passing in 2007, Patricia continued to travel in her RV. She moved to High River, AB for a while, and then onto Clover Living assisted facility in Calgary and eventually St. Marguerite's Manor for the final few months. Patricia is survived by Jamie (Nancy), Neil and her grandson, Brady.
