Patricia Ficzycz Obituary

Patricia Ficzycz, beloved mother, nana, sister, aunt and friend passed away peacefully after a brief illness at South Health Campus on Sunday, February 28, 2021 at the age of 75. Patricia (Pat) was born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan and attended Sheldon Williams Collegiate High School, graduating in 1963.  During her high school years, Pat made lifelong friends and created many cherished memories that were shared throughout the years. After high school, Pat entered nursing training at Grey Nuns Hospital in Saskatoon. Following graduation, she moved to Regina and found a job at the Medical Arts Clinic, working for Dr. Nestor Ficzycz, her beloved future husband.  They were married for 43 years from June 1970 until Nestor’s passing in February 2014. It was in Regina that Patricia and Nestor started their family and raised their three children. In 2008, following Nestor’s retirement, they moved to Calgary to be closer to their children and grandchildren who lovingly remember Nana and Dido. The two led a robust life full of family, friends, lots of laughs, and wonderful food.  After Nestor’s passing, Pat bravely carried on, finding joy in friends, hosting dinner parties, playing cards, and participating in the lives of her three children and five grandchildren.  She will be remembered as a kind soul who always put others before herself. Nana’s cooking skills were unparalleled. She was at her best in the kitchen preparing and serving meals for those she loved. She took great pride in her home which was bright and welcoming with a front door that was always open to visitors.   Pat led by example, her strength of character, wisdom, and ability to keep moving on showed us the true meaning of class and grace.  Pat is predeceased by her husband, Nestor, and her mother Dorothy.  Nana will be missed by her three children Andrew (Jennifer); Jennifer and her sons, Alexander and Benjamin; and Natasha (John) and their sons, Andrew, Matthew and Nicholas; as well as one brother, Doug Gibbs. She also leaves behind extended family members and countless friends.  The family would like to thank Drs. William Fowler and Peter Rye for their caring and thoughtful guidance through Mom’s illness. A private service will be held at St. Stephen Protomartyr Ukrainian Catholic Church followed by a graveside service at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Calgary Health Foundation or a charity of your choice.
