Patricia was the beloved mother of Andrea Hagen and Julie Carter Johnson and a cherished Nana to her adored grandchildren Michael Hagen, Sydney Hagen, and Sean Hagen. She passed away unexpectedly while on her evening walk March 26, 2025. Patricia was predeceased by her husband David Carter, who passed away in January 2019 at the age of 90.
Patricia grew up in Ottawa, and from there went onto Mt. Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick, graduating in 1957 with a degree in Political Science and Economics. She was a member of the Women's Tennis Team throughout university.
Afterwards, Patricia moved to Edmonton, Alberta with her parents as her father was transferred with his job in the RCMP. She began work with an oil company called Pan American as an executive assistant . Excelling in her job, Patricia put her desire to go to law school on hold "for a couple of years" and then met the charming and smiling David Carter who swept her off her feet. They married in December 1960. David was transferred to Calgary, and thus she embarked on this new journey; 3.5 years later daughter Andrea was born and, 6 years later, along came daughter Julie.
Patricia devoted her life to motherhood, while also volunteering for many, many organizations over the years. Of particular joy were her years of volunteering at Heritage Park, and also being a casual summer employee at Heritage Park (2016-2019). Heritage Park was a favourite of the family's while her kids were growing up, and with her grandchildren over the years as well. She was an active member at The Glencoe Club playing such sports as badminton, tennis, bowling...and she was always her daughter's biggest cheerleader in all the pursuits they embarked on.
Patricia loved the great outdoors and she joined a club called The Fifth Dimension where she participated in hiking and cross-country skiing for many, many years and often David got dragged along too (he complained, but truth be told he enjoyed it). Her other happy places included Victoria BC, England, Ireland and the beautiful back yard that she treasured in the summer months and enjoyed for so many many years living in Lakeview Village.
Mom was a very kind, caring, loving, selfless, and compassionate soul (just to name a few of the many attributes) who endeared herself to all in her life.
"Mom, Nana, Mrs. C, Pat, Patricia" (and a few other amusing monikers - you know who you are!) we love you and already feel the empty void with your absence.
Forever in our hearts, rest in peace. Your loving family .
