It is with heavy heart that we announce the passing of Panagiotis (Paul) Nikolaou, of Calgary, Alberta, on Wednesday January 22, 2020 at the age of 85 years.
Paul was born in Agistri, Aigina Greece to Dionysios Nikolaou and Stamatina Dedes on January 6, 1935. As a young adult, Paul immigrated to Canada, after working with the Hellenic Merchant Marine. He was a successful businessman, owning Paul Nikolaou Painting and Decorating. Paul was a hard worker and enjoyed getting his hands dirty, with many ventures in construction and properties.
He was a caring father, husband, grandfather and friend. Paul is survived by his loving wife Barbara Nikolaou of Calgary; his son Dionysios; his daughter Tina and her husband Sean; and his four grandchildren Varvara, Nikoletta, Vasiliki, and Thespina.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Alberta Children’s Hospital (http://www.childrenshospital.ab.ca/site/PageNavigator/howtohelp/donate_landing).
Remember, By Christina Rossetti
Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann'd:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.
