Neil Duncan Phyper, loving husband, father, newly minted grandfather, and brother passed away peacefully at his home in Calgary, Alberta on November 17, 2025 surrounded by his close family after a relentless battle with kidney disease.
Neil was born in Montreal, Quebec on November 29, 1953 to Duncan and Helen (nee Domarchuk) Phyper and they quickly moved west to Calgary where he spent most of his life. Neil was a dedicated family man who loved going for drives in fast European cars while listening to his favorite music like Santana. He also enjoyed tinkering on various projects, working out with CrossFit, and most of all spending quality time with his family especially during holidays and vacations. Neil was a fighter right to the end and never gave up trying to overcome his illness and this tenacity was only superseded by his unwavering love and support for his beautiful wife Judy.
Neil is predeceased by his wife Judy (nee Schmaltz), his parents Duncan and Helen, and his sister’s Ellen and Theresa. Neil is survived by his son Evan (Zoraida Espinoza) along with his grandson Sebastian, his son James (Abi), his daughter Alyssa (Brett) Garneau along with his grandson Wilfred all of Calgary and by his brothers Bruce (Minako) of San Diego CA and Ian (Terri Matheson) of Calgary and his sister Brenda of Ecuador.
Funeral Mass will be held at Canadian Martyrs Catholic Church (835 Northmount Dr NW) on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at 10:30 am.
