Monique Louise Marie LaFreniere, born April 1, 1966, passed away suddenly and tragically on Sunday July 20, 2025 at the age of 59. Monique was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba but grew up in Brandon where she completed high school, and later, Brandon University.
Monique also graduated from the University of Calgary, earning several certificates for her chosen role as a Human Resources Professional. Monique had a passion for music and participated in choral singing and competitive organ playing in her youth. As an adult, she enjoyed singing alto with Westwinds Music Society and Badlands Passion Play Church.
After graduating from University of Calgary, she had several jobs working with Developmental Disabilities Resource Centre of Calgary, the Government of Canada Food Inspection Agency, Arnold Brothers Transport, Independent Learning Service, Graham Construction, Heritage College, PTW Construction and TFI Transport, all as a Human Resources Consultant.
If all this was not enough, as a teenager she earned her driver's license. However, after some altercations and trips to the eye doctor, she was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa, a gradual and uncurable condition which results in vision loss.
Monique accomplished most of her adult life with help of three very special service animals or “Guide Dogs”, first Paatos, then Rupert and finally Bahs, who is left to mourn her. We can take comfort in the knowledge she has been reunited with her father Maurice LaFreniere.
Monique is survived by her partner of over 20 years, Terry Fiddler; her brother Marcell and his wife Laurie along with their children; as well as many aunts and cousins. She was predeceased by her mother Marie and father Maurice.
A Funeral Liturgy will be held at Evan J. Strong Funeral Services North (3625 12 St NE) on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at 11:00 am.
