Mildred Kolody Obituary

Mildred Kolody, (nee Janko), of Calgary, Alberta, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at the age of 90 years.

Mildred was born in McCreary, Manitoba on November 26, 1934; She spent her younger years growing up in the Brooks area. Later she moved to Calgary, Alberta, Canada in 1950. Mildred graduated from the Henderson school of Business, receiving a Diploma in Secretarial Science. She excelled in her typing speed at school and during her career. Mildred married Geroge Kolody in 1958, and together had three boys, Jay, Wade and Gavin.

She was an active member and supporter of the Roman Catholic Church. Mildred accomplished much throughout her life and took great pride in her career, serving with distinction for presidents and chief executives of leading companies. Mildred and Joe ventured into several Real Estate holdings such as: Crawford Bay British Columbia, Brooks, Calgary, Haysboro, Glamorgan, Mount Royal, Springbank's Pinebrook Estates, Canyon Meadows Estates, Montana, Whitefish Lake and golf Course, Flathead Lake, and Kalispell.

Mildred was very involved and supportive of her family of four brothers and two sisters, and three sons. She also kept herself aware of her Lithuanian ethnic roots. Mildred’s favourite past-time was to offer people her wisdom on life. She cherished sharing her thoughts to guide others to their best self.

She will be most remembered for her listening and sharing her compassion. Mildred is survived by her sons, Wade Alan of Corinth, Texas and Gavin Ronald of Calgary, Alberta; granddaughters, Jayleen (Jacob) of Calgary, Alberta, Justeen (Shaun) of Calgary, Alberta, and Cassandra of Texas; great-grandchildren, Avacyn, Gideon, Breya, Nash and Theodore; and  daughter-in-law Tammy of Calgary, Alberta.

Mildred is also survived by her sister Jean Phelps of Brooks, Alberta; sister-in-law Joy Layden; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mildred has been predeceased by her husband George Ronald; eldest son, Jay Albert Ryan; parents, Ona and Pius Janko; brothers, and sisters Bertha (Steven), Louis Janko (Audrey), Albie Janko (Gwen), Stan Janko (Doreen), Benedict Janko, and James Phelps (Brother-in-Law).

If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Heart and Stoke Foundation and The Canadian Cancer Society in the name of Mildred A. Kolody.

A Visitation will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025, between 12:00pm to 1:00pm, at St. Mary's Cathedral. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 1:00pm, at St. Mary's Cathedral (219 18 Avenue SW, Calgary), with Fr. Joseph Tom Kalathil Parambil, officiating. A reception will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion Chapelhow Branch 284 (606 38 Avenue NE, Calgary) beginning at 3:00pm.
