It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mike Chorney, aged 82, on November 3, 2024, in Calgary, Alberta. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Mike was born on the family farm near Foam Lake, Saskatchewan, the son of John and Lena Chorney, the youngest of four children. Mike grew up in Foam Lake and later went to nursing school in Weyburn, Saskatchewan where he met his wife Mona. Mike lived most of his life with Mona in Calgary, Alberta where he graduated from the University of Calgary, and raised his two daughters.
Mike was known for his sense of humor, kindness, and his love of life and his family. He enjoyed playing baseball, curling, and bowling. Mike loved camping and never hesitated to help a friend. He loved to dance and party and brought joy to those around him.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years Mona (née Smith), his daughters Natasha (Ryan), Tatiana (German), and two grandsons Ronan and Ridley.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Edgemont Community Association, Panorama Room (33 Edgevalley Circle NW) on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at 11:00 am, with a lunch to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mike Chorney’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Meyronne Community Hall at rm75@sasktel.net.
A special thank you to the staff of the Crowfoot Unit of the Bowview Manor for their care and compassion.
