**Michael Zwyer: A Life of Passion, Family, and Community**
Michael Zwyer, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2025, in Calgary, Alberta. Born November 18, 1932, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Michael lived a life filled with passion, dedication, and unwavering love for his family and community.
He is survived by his cherished wife, Margaret; his children, Stefanie, Susan, and David (LoAn) Zwyer; his sister, Mary Raeside; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Katherine. His legacy of kindness, strength, and unwavering support will forever inspire those who knew and loved him.
Michael's youthful energy shone brightly in Moose Jaw, where he was a standout athlete, excelling in hockey (Moose Jaw Canucks & Pla-Mors) and fastball. This athletic prowess followed him to Calgary in 1970, where he continued to play until he was 90 yrs old and dedicated his time coaching his children in softball, baseball, and hockey. His competitive spirit and love of these games were infectious.
A brilliant student, Michael graduated high school at age 16 and went on to take business courses in Moose Jaw. He built a distinguished 41-year career as an accountant with BA Oil and Gulf Oil, earning his RIA designation from the University of Calgary and enjoying an early retirement in 1992. His retirement years were filled with the joy of senior league sports, dancing, and cheering on his favorite teams, Calgary Cannons, Stampeders, and Flames.
He was one of the original members of St. Stephen Protomartyr Ukrainian Catholic Parish and 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus. Michael’s commitment to faith and community was evident throughout his life.
A Divine Liturgy will be held at St. Stephen Protomartyr Ukrainian Catholic Church (4903 – 45 Street SW, Calgary) on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at 11:00 am. Luncheon to follow in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of your choice.
Michael Zwyer's legacy will continue to live in the hearts of those who knew him.
