Michael Richard Skarupa, age 81, of Calgary, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2026, at Foothills Medical Centre.
Michael was born in Calgary, Alberta, on September 3, 1944. He proudly served with the Canadian Forces in the Ordnance Corps and Military Police for over 18 years. Following his military service, he worked with Corrections Canada for 10 years and later with Border Services for 13 years. In retirement, Michael enjoyed working with people through his roles at Marriott Hotels and Lakeview Signature Inn, where he was known for his friendly nature and strong work ethic.
Michael took great pride in his yard and found joy in feeding the birds and squirrels that visited daily.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Cheryl (Marcotte); his children, Deborah, Michael Jr., and Georgina (Bob) Mudaliar; his grandchildren, Alexandria, Devan, and Samuel Mudaliar; and his sisters, June (Larry) Threatful, Joyce (Gary) Fisher, and Maureen Murray (Paul), all of Calgary, Alberta. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Michael was predeceased by his parents, Violet and Michael Skarupa; his sister, Marilyn Schabert; his brother-in-law, Earl Schabert; and Paul Murray.
Respecting Michael’s wishes, no funeral service will be held. A private family interment will take place at Rocky View Garden of Peace Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Michael’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or Veterans Association.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the medical staff at Foothills Medical Centre for their care and compassion. Michael was loved by many whose lives he touched and will be greatly missed.
