With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Michael Allan Moore on May 23, 2025, in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 71.
Born in Toronto, Ontario, Mike graduated from the University of Waterloo with a degree in Chemical Engineering and embarked on a remarkable career as a reservoir engineer. His work took him across the globe – from the oil fields of Australia, South America, Africa, China, and Pakistan, to the cities of Adelaide and Sydney where he spent a memorable ten years and earned a reputation for his creative, unforgettable get-togethers.
In the late 1980s, Mike began consulting under his own banner, HSRWT (Have Slide Rule Will Travel) and eventually completed his career in Calgary.
Mike had a zest for life and lived it fully. He was passionate about camping, golfing, bowling, darts, and he cheered proudly for the Montreal Canadiens. His sense of fun and his “work hard, play hard” philosophy earned him deep friendships and lasting admiration wherever he went.
Mike was a devoted husband to Angy and a loving, involved father to their son, Brodie – his greatest pride and joy. He supported Brodie at every turn and took the time to learn and share his son’s interests. His boundless support and commitment to his family was seen every day and defined him as an exceptional husband and father.
Mike will be deeply missed by his mother, Terri; sisters, Karen (Dave) and Karlene (Marilyn); Uncle Floyd; niece, Jennifer (Ed); mother-in-law, Claudia; brother-in-law, Reto (Julie); their son William, cousin-in- law, Irma (Franz); his family, friends, and all who had the privilege to know him.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no funeral service. A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at a later date. If so desired, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your local Children’s Hospital.
