May Burch

Our family is deeply saddened by the sudden passing of May Burch, on Friday, April 30, 2021 at the age of 84.  She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Barrie Burch, daughter Cheryl (Dave) Powers, son Terry (Diane) Burch and brother Alvin (Jeanne) Jones.  She was predeceased by her son Brad Burch.  She leaves behind many close family and friends who are saddened by her passing.

May was born on the family farm on April 18, 1937 in Killarney, Manitoba and she was the eldest of two children born to Florence and Maurice Jones. She grew up with her brother Alvin on the farm near Killarney and attended a one room schoolhouse. After high school, she attended Brandon College and studied education. She went on to teach at a one room schoolhouse SE of Killarney. She was a very good student and took her teaching quite seriously. She met Barrie in Brandon College and they married in 1958 and moved to Calgary.

May was a dedicated wife and mother who supported all of her family's activities and adventures. Her family was extremely important to her.

May was a fabulous homemaker and had a passion for cooking. She enjoyed hosting elaborate dinner parties and barbecues for her friends and family. She enjoyed and enrolled in many cooking, sewing, and craft courses through the years. Her exceptional sewing and craft skills have been enjoyed by many through her creations of beautiful wallets, tree skirts, prayer shawls, and exquisite quilts.

The family would like to thank the staff of United Active Living - Fish Creek, for the wonderful care Mom received. Also, thank you to the staff at the Rockyview Emergency Department for their kindness and compassionate support.

A private family service is being held.
