Maureen had a wonderful and adventurous life and the world was blessed to have known her. Born in 1938 to Norman and Jean Wilson, Maureen spent her early years in Southern Saskatchewan, including Eastend, Weyburn, Shaunavon and later attended business school in Moose Jaw.
She met her husband Gordon Cowan and they married in 1956. Gordon was the love of her life and they celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on August 4th, 2023 at their home in Calgary. Together they moved across North America with Gord’s hockey and work. They spent many years in Toledo, Denver, Calgary, Arizona, Kelowna, Maple Creek, and Medicine Hat. Maureen would have known the inside of every rink and arena along the way. She counted 27 moves in their journey. She raised three children and made many lifelong friends along the way. She treasured her good friends and kept in close touch until her memory began failing her over the past few years.
Maureen is survived by her husband Gordon; by her three children, Ted, Leslie, and Randi; her beloved grandchildren, Shane, Gina, Johanna, Amber, and Jolee; her great-grandchildren, Blake, and Isla; her brothers, Barrie, and Terry; their families and many treasured nieces, nephews, and relatives too numerous to name them all here, but you know who you are. Sadly, Maureen was predeceased by two of her grandchildren, Reid, and Carly Jean.
Maureen was a fierce protector of her family and we loved her for it. She loved her many animals, her years golfing with her friends at Willow Park, and her work in retail at Cleopatra and then C’est Casual. She was a vibrant and elegant woman who enjoyed life. Maureen was beautiful and much loved and we will miss her deeply.
We would like to thank the amazing homecare providers from Home Instead and the nurses with AHS for their care and support over the last year.
A Celebration of Maureen’s Life will be held for family and friends on Saturday, September 16, 2023, from 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm at the Willowridge Community Centre (680 Acadia Drive Calgary, Alberta.) We hope to see you there.
