Mary Eileen (Cormier) MacGillivray

Mary 'Eileen' MacGillivray passed away peacefully on the morning of September 17, 2026, at Rockyview Hospital in Calgary, at the age of 90. She had received the sacrament of the sick shortly before her death.

Born in Montreal on November 25, 1935, to Kathleen and Frank Cormier, Eileen was a teacher before her marriage to Don MacGillivray on July 12, 1958, in St. John, New Brunswick. Together they raised five children, and in 1971 the family settled in Calgary, Alberta, where Eileen would spend the rest of her life.

Eileen was a woman of deep faith and quiet strength. A devoted member of St. Luke's Church, she gave generously of her time for many years, volunteering with Meals on Wheels, Pastoral Care Visiting, and Marriage Preparation courses. She loved all of her children dearly, found joy in playing the piano and doing crossword puzzles, and bore the challenges of aging without complaint — an example of grace to all who knew her.

She is survived by her loving husband, Don; her five children, Suzanne, Christine, Joe, Greg, and Mark; their spouses, Joe, Mei, Marilyn, and Adriana; her grand-nephew Michael and grand-niece Camilla; and a wide circle of extended family and friends.

She was predeceased by her mother, Kathleen; her father, James (Frank) Cormier; and her brothers, Randall and Paul Cormier.

A remembrance service will be held on Thursday, September 24 at 2:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Calgary. Condolences may be sent to mark.macgillivray@proton.me.
