Mary Katherine Jensen

Mary Katherine Jensen died on July 1, 2025. She was 53 years old. Mary is survived and missed by her loving husband Bryan, her sons Peter and Erik, her mother Mary Halpen and her brothers Pat (Sara), and Michael (Kate) Korman.

She was born and raised in Calgary before she went to Queen’s University, graduating in 1993 with a Degree in Canadian Studies. She met her husband Bryan in 1998, and they lived in New York, Venice, California and Palm Springs (where her sons were born) before returning to Calgary in 2018. Ultimately, the wayward Canadian Studies major found her way home. She enjoyed a successful career as a project manager in New York and Los Angeles and transitioned to working for Modernism Week in Palm Springs where she was able to embrace her long-held love of mid-century modern architecture and design.

She was compassionate about helping others. In Venice, she worked tirelessly on the Venice Art Walk to raise money for a local free healthcare clinic. In Palm Springs, she fought for the preservation of mid-century modern architecture. In Calgary, she was instrumental in her Children’s schools and deeply involved with C-Space, a local charity which combines support of artists with the goal of building inspirational, local community spaces.

Outside of her family and charity, Mary loved the outdoors and the mountains. She created a bond with the mountains in her early twenties when she worked in Moraine Lake . Later in life, she spent many endless days skiing, hiking, climbing and camping in the front and back-country with friends and family. She and her fellow BABS skied many great lines and summitted several classic peaks. The mountains will miss her as much as we will.

Most strikingly, at her core, she was one of the most generous, non judgemental and supportive people we know. Always finding time, always helping, always putting others above herself. She was irreplaceable and will be deeply missed.

A celebration of Mary’s life will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Earl Grey Country Club, 6540 20 Street SW, Calgary, AB, T3E 5L2.
