Mary Joyce Charanduk

Mary was born on August 24, 1935, on the family farm near Beckenham, Sask. She was one of ten children born to Mike and Mary Shewchuk. Mary met her husband Willie in Ituna, and they were married on August 8, 1954, in Yorkton, Sask. Mary worked in the Ituna Hospital as a nurse’s aide and at the Canada Post office for many years. In 1959, Mary and Willie built their first home in Ituna. They spent most of their lives in Ituna raising their children. Mary always had a strong sense of community and was very involved in many church charities and was a member of the choir and the UCWLC. In 1994, after Willie’s retirement, they moved to Calgary and became active members of St. Stephen’s parish. Mary was a long-time member of the parish choir and just recently received her sixty-year UCWLC member pin. Mary enjoyed cooking, gardening and travelling. She loved working with flowers and was renowned for her beautiful garden. Mary’s priority in life was her family. Her home was always full of love and laughter as she enjoyed entertaining family and friends.

Mary was predeceased by her husband Willie who died in 2009. She is survived by her son Dr. Gerard (Carol) and their children Matthew (Madiey), Andrew (Allyssa), great grandson Lane, and son Glen (AnneMarie) and their children Michael (Ezgi) and Mark (Amanda). She is also survived by three brothers and three sisters and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and godchildren. Mary will be remembered with fondness by all those whose lives she touched.
