Marlene MacKay

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved aunt, Marlene MacKay, who passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital on November 21, 2025, at the age of 79. Born in Calgary on July 15, 1946, Marlene dedicated her life, through education and faith, to the Calgary community.

Marlene began her teaching career with Calgary Catholic Schools in 1971, where she taught with passion and dedication in several elementary schools. With a deep commitment to student success, she impacted the lives of countless students. Later in her career, she worked as a consultant, vice-principal, and principal. In 2002, Marlene retired from teaching.

A devout Catholic and active member of the Ascension parish, Marlene lived a life guided by integrity and kindness. Beyond the classroom, she was an avid reader, a golfer, and a cherished host known for her warm hospitality.

She was predeceased by her parents, Jack and Helen MacKay and her sister, Jacqaline.

Marlene will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her surviving family: her devoted nephew, Brad Srayko (and spouse, Holly Srayko), her great-nephew, Fynn Srayko, and numerous cousins and friends.

A Funeral Mass will be held in memory of Marlene on December 3, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Ascension Parish, located at 1100 Berkshire Boulevard NW, Calgary. A reception will follow at the church hall. A private interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in the future.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the caring staff on Unit 47 at the Foothills Hospital for their compassionate care during her final week.
