Marlene Finstad

We announce with great sorrow the passing of Marlene Finstad on May 21, 2025, at the age of 85, surrounded by loved ones.

Born to Emil and Katherine Winter on June 12, 1939, in Bienfait, Saskatchewan, Marlene was the eldest of four children. She grew up on a dairy farm in southern Saskatchewan, and the prairie values of community, hard work, independence, and unwavering devotion to family were evident throughout her life.

Marlene married Gordon Finstad on May 5, 1959, and moved to Calgary, Alberta. Their 66-year marriage was marked by love and devotion. Together they raised five children, Colleen (Craig), Donald (Maureen), Alan (Laurie), Nola, and Vernon (Sheri).

Marlene is survived by her husband Gordon, siblings Donna (George), Leona (Al), and Brenda (Don), and her five children. She was a cherished grandmother to 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Prayers will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. (visitation at 10:00 a.m.) followed by a reception in the church hall at 12:00 p.m. A recording of the funeral service is available below. Both services will be held at St. Cecilia Catholic Church (321, 90th Ave SW).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Marlene’s legacy of love, dedication, and service will continue to inspire those who knew her. May she rest in peace.
